The Netflix Series Valeria -That Captures the Messy Beauty of Being a Writer

Let me tell you about this gem of a show I started binge watching last last year — Valeria.
If you’re into Spanish series (or even if you’re not), this one’s worth your time.
Trust me, it has got all the feels, drama, and relatability you need for a cozy weekend binge.

Now, I admit, I don’t understand Spanish fluently, but subtitles totally did the job for me.

Honestly, they didn’t take away the flavor of the show at all.
In fact, they made me feel like I was part of Valeria’s world— a world that is messy, real, and relatable.

Who’s Valeria?

Valeria, the main protagonist, is an aspiring writer.
She is trying to write her first novel, but let’s say….life isn’t making it easy for her… let’s just put it that way.

Valeria’s marriage is literally on the rocks and her creative juices aren’t flowing.
She is stuck in this endless loop of self-doubt.
Does that sound familiar? I mean’t the self doubt part….!

The fact is that, Valeria isn’t alone. She has got her squad, three amazing girlfriends who are just as flawed, funny, and fabulous as she is.
Umm…in the beginning it definitely did remind me of Sex and the City and the squad of Carry Bradshaw. But it’s a lot different.

The show isn’t just about Valeria only, it is about their lives too— their struggles, their wins, and their very complicated love lives.

Victor (aka Eye Candy)

Okay, I haaaave to talk about Victor. The role played by the ridiculously charming Max Iglesias.

As soon as he enters the plotline things get spicy.
Valeria’s love life gets a major upgrade, and….it’s not just her who’s blushing.
Victor is, well, a visual treat.

But beyond the steamy scenes, his character adds depth to Valeria’s journey, that made her question what she really want- both in love and in her life.

The Writer’s Struggle: Too Real

What really hooked me was how accurately the show portrays the struggles of a writer. Valeria’s frustration, her endless rewrites, the rejections, the financial stress— it’s all there. It’s soooo freaking relatable.

As someone who is dabbled in writing (I mean staring at a blank page for hours), I felt every ounce of her pain.  The related so much with this one scene where she keeps going back to the beginning of her novel.

She tries again and again to find the perfect opening. It’s frustrating, it’s exhausting, and it’s so real.

And when she finally decides to self-published- that very moment hit me right in the feels.
It is a huge reminder that sometimes, you have to take control of your own story— both literally and figuratively.

Based on a Novel? Yes, Please!

Here’s an interesting fact, this show is based on a novel by Elisabet Benavent. So, no wonder why the emotions feel so raw and authentic. Especially when it is coming from someone who has been there and done that.

Valeria isn’t perfect and that’s what makes her so endearing. She is flawed, she is messy, she is clumsy and she is trying to figure it all out. Umm….isn’t that all of us?

Why You Should Watch It

If you are a writer, a dreamer, or just someone who loves a good story- that has drama, romance and comedy, Valeria is for you.

I think, it’s is not just about romance or friendship. The story is more about finding your voice, embracing your imperfections and daring to chase your dreams.

Even when the world tells you you are not good enough.

Just in case you are not in the mood for a show, then just grab the book! Either way, you are in for a treat.

Trust me, you will enjoy it and you might even find a little inspiration along the way. 😉

Thanks for Reading 🌻
