10 Best Movie Villains- Who Are Actually Good
My favourite Villain Characters with Twisted Minds
Disclaimer: While these villains may be considered “good” in the sense of being well-written, complex characters, their actions are often morally reprehensible.
1.The Joker (Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”)
Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker is considered one of the greatest villainous performances of all time.
His chaotic-dark energy, the twisted sense of humor, and unpredictable nature makes him a terrifying yet fascinating antagonist.
I think, Ledger’s performance is so nuanced and complex that it’s hard to hate the Joker.
He is a tragic figure who is driven to madness by the injustices of society. No doubt , he is a symbol of chaos but the worst part is that he is also a victim of his own mental illness.
2.Thanos (Josh Brolin, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”) :
Thanos is one of the most complex villains ever. He is driven by a twisted philosophy of balance.
His motivations, even though they are extreme – they are understandable.
This makes him a compelling antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Therefore , his own idea of balance, dissolves his pure intentions with his darknes. Afterall, creating a morally gray character who believes he’s doing the right thing. He is not a villain in the traditional sense, but rather a misguided hero who believes he’s saving the universe.
3. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver, “Star Wars” Sequel Trilogy) –
Kylo Ren is a conflicted villain who is torn between the light and dark sides of the Force. His journey throughout the trilogy is a fascinating exploration of a character struggling with their own demons.
He is a character who is deeply flawed but also capable of redemption.
His internal conflict makes him a sympathetic villain and his journey is a fascinating exploration of the dark side of the Force.
4. Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan, “Black Panther”) –
Killmonger is a morally complex villain who challenges the status quo and forces T’Challa to confront the darker side of Wakanda.
While his motivations are extreme, they are understandable at the same time. This makes him a compelling antagonist.
He is a villain who is driven by a sense of injustice. He believes that Wakanda should be a beacon of hope for oppressed people around the world. He is willing to do anything to achieve that goal.
5. Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe, “Spider-Man”) –
Dafoe’s portrayal of Norman Osborn is a classic example of a charismatic yet terrifying villain.
His transformation into the Green Goblin is a spine chilling spectacle. And I definitely have to mention, what an extraordinary actor is Dafoe. He can literally make you believe that is the real Green Goblin and he is not acting.
Norman Osborn is a complex character who is driven by ambition and greed. His transformation into the Green Goblin is a tragic fall from grace.
6. Gorr the God Butcher ( Christian Bale, ” Thor Love and Thunder”)-
Gorr is a father who turns into a villain , because of his tragic backstory. He tried everything but none of the Gods helped him save his daughter, who eventually succumbed. He has an understandable motivation – that is revenge against the gods for abandoning him.
While his actions are undeniably violent and destructive, his pain and suffering are relatable. This makes him a complex and compelling antagonist.
Gorr’s journey is a reminder that even the most harmless characters can become cruel and merciless, when a dearest one is lost.
7. Darth Vader (James Earl Jones, “Star Wars” Original Trilogy) –
Darth Vader is a timeless villain whose tragic backstory and imposing presence makes him one of the most iconic villains in cinematic history.
He is a complex character who is both a villain and a hero. He was originally a hero but hate drove him down to the path of darkness. In the end, his character shows us that afterall he still had some good, left inside.
8. The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger, “The Terminator”)
Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of the Terminator is a classic example of a physical and intimidating villain.
His relentless pursuit of Sarah Connor makes him a terrifying character.
I think , the Terminator is a simple, yet terrifying villain. He is a machine that is programmed to kill, and he does his job with ruthless efficiency.
9. The Joker (Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker”) –
Phoenix’s performance as the Joker is a haunting and powerful portrayal of all time. He is basically a man, descending into madness. His tragic backstory and disturbing actions make him a truly unforgettable villain.
Hid performance is so raw and intense that it’s hard to look away. He portrays the Joker as a man who is struggling with mental illness and who is slowly losing his grip on reality.
10. Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes, “Harry Potter” series) –
As we a know, Voldemort is a dark wizard and the main antagonist of the Harry Potter series.
His magical powers and evil intentions make him a formidable foe. Watching him while growing up, has always made me hate him even more.
However, I must say that Voldemort is a classic villain who is both powerful and evil. His defeat is a triumph of good over evil.
P.S :
Loki has been one my most favourite villains of all time. But I didn’t include him in the list of 10 Best Movie Villains- Who Are Actually Good -Since he turned out to be one of the biggest heroes of the MCU.
